Vortex Breakers- Dev Log 10
Spent a full day just play testing and glitch fixing. There were several problems with the transition from regular gameplay to the boss spawning I needed to work out. In this video, you'll see a few waves of regular enemies (galaga-style) and then the spawning of the boss. So there wasnt much to show.
Now, I started to work again on the bosses. More specifically, the different phases of the boss. I wanted each boss to have 2 distinct phases. The first where it spawns numerous smaller enemies to "bodyguard" it and attack. But once you've killed most of those bodyguards, the boss goes into a phase where it launches more powerful attacks. Once it fires through a whole sequence of attacks, it respawns its defenders. (If you saw earlier posts, this is formed from the prototype I made, only much more developed and refined.)
Since this is the boss for the first level, its patterns are pretty simplistic, and the special shots fairly basic. Later bosses will have more complicated attacks and more powerful bodyguards, moving in more complex patterns.
